“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
Thomas Carlyle

Reflection: If you do not have a goal, it is like not having a sense of direction. You have nothing to guide you. Your goal is what guides you, it is what you look forward to. The goal you set for yourself is the goal yo are determined to reach.

If there is beauty in character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation, if there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
Conclusion:
If there is beauty in character, there will be peace in the world.
Chinese Proverb.

Reflection: I believe that this Chinese proverb is correct, because without beauty or peace, there is nothing in the world. Peace in this world is what is more important, and from beauty comes peace.

“I would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating.”
Sophocles

Reflection: It is best to fail on something that you did correctly, than to win something that you cheated on. Wining is usually great when it is done honestly, but when you try to cheat in order to win, then you did not win honestly, not only did you cheat, but you also cheated on yourself. Losing isn’t always a bad thing, especially when you tried so hard to win, but instead of cheating you decided to be honest even if it caused you to lose.

“If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.”
Dan Dierdorf

Reflection: What he is saying in his quote is that if you’ve got a goal, do everything you can to make it happen. When you set your goals, set them with the intension of doing everything possible to achieve them in the right way. When you want to do something, do it right. Always choose the right.

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”
Wilford Woodruff

Reflection: I agree with him because I believe that he is right. When you do something that is bad and or wrong, nothing good will come out of it. If you help someone do something that is bad, then you are just as much involved and going to be punished as they are. It doesn’t matter if you weren’t the one who thought of that bad idea, but if you participate in it then nothing good will come your way.

“The reward for doing right is mostly and internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem.”
Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Reflection: I think that what she is saying is true. Having self- respect and dignity in you is what will always result from doing what is right. Not only will you have self- respect, others will respect you as well.

“Dare you to stand alone.”
Thomas S. Monson

Reflection: I think he means that it is best to stand alone when something is wrong. If your friends are going out and decide to do something bad, then it is best to stand alone no matter what the others say about you, even if they make fun of you.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”
Theodore Roosevelt

Reflection: I like this quote of Theodore Roosevelt; because I think what he is saying is very true. Before you make a decision you should always think about it and think if it is the right decision, or the bad decision. Never try and do the bad decision because if you do then only bad things will come to you.

“Make each day your masterpiece. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better, and over a period of time you become a lot better.”
John Wooden
UCLA

Reflection: You need to make each day worthwhile. Pretend it is like your last day on earth, you need to do your best to make it amazing.

“It’s a great moment when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.”
Pan knox

Reflection: She means that she thinks it’d great when someone steps up and does the right thing. Many people are too scared or shy when it comes to stepping up for whats right, but when someone does, then that is what is great.

The 10 Indian Commandments

Student Success Statement
The 10 Indian Commandments
1.    Treat the earth an all that dwells therein with respect.
2.    Remain close to the Great Spirit.
3.    Show great respect to your fellow beings.
4.    Work together for the benefit of all mankind.
5.    Give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
6.    Do what you know to be right.
7.    Look after the well-being of mind and body.
8.    Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good.
9.    Be truthful and honest at all times.
10. Take full responsibility for your actions.

Reflection: The way these Indians thought and created their commandments is very smart. I like how they not only think about themselves but for others as well. They are one big family and they treat each other like one. Everyone helps out and is respectful. They care for their earth and thank it for giving them a place to live on. I will apply this to me because I fully agree with everything on here. I respect their way of thinking.

“A promise
must never be
broken.”
Alexander Hamilton

Reflection: I agree with this quote, because I too believe that a promise should never be broken. If you promise something to someone then that means you are to keep that promise. You must keep your word at all times. Breaking a promise is like breaking the love and trust that that person gave you.

“What you see is what you get”
Anonymous

Reflection: I think this means that you can not be anything more than what you already are. If you see yourself becoming a doctor or dentist, then you will become it. Seeing is believing and by believing that you will be what you see, then you will become it.

“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and unpopular that which is unsound”
(not good)
Joseph Smith

Reflection: I think he means that we should influence other people to do good and not to do bad. If a person is doing bad and you know they are but they do not know, then it is your duty to influence them to do what is right and good.

Reflection: Tyler worked hard each and every day. His father even helped him to get to where he wanted to be. Tyler worked so hard and it did pay off. He did so much for himself others and his family.

“True
Independence and
 freedom can only
exist in doing
what’s right.”
Brigham Young

Reflection: What I think he means by this is that if you want freedom and independence in life, you have to be willing to do what is right. Doing what is right can get you a lot more things than you thought possible. No one will want to remember you as the person who did wrong all their life. They’ll want to be able to say that you were the one that always did the right thing no matter what other people thought and said about it.

An example of doing something wrong and losing your freedom is when you steal something or use drugs and get put into prison. Getting put into prison is losing your freedom because you are now locked up forever.

An example of doing something right and gaining your freedom and independence is studying hard in school and getting into a great university. That is doing what is right and being independent because you are now on your own making your own money and doing your own things.

“They’re only
truly great
who are truly
 good.”

George Chapman

Reflection: I think he means that if you're truly good then you are truly great. If you are bad or hang out with the wrong people and do drugs, then you are not truly great. If you are a good student and work hard and hang out with the right crowd, then you are truly great. Those who do good, are good.

Cheating: Is the short term gain worth the long term pain?

“Many think that the short term gain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn’t. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don’t do it.”

GEORGE MITCHELL, Senate Majority Leader, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Disney Chairman of the Board.

Reflection: What i think he is trying to say is that it is not worth to cheat if you're only going to be happy for a little while. why cheat and then be sad forever knowing that you did something bad. It is best to do what is right and have a long term happy feeling.
