“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
Thomas Carlyle

Reflection: If you do not have a goal, it is like not having a sense of direction. You have nothing to guide you. Your goal is what guides you, it is what you look forward to. The goal you set for yourself is the goal yo are determined to reach.

If there is beauty in character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation, if there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
Conclusion:
If there is beauty in character, there will be peace in the world.
Chinese Proverb.

Reflection: I believe that this Chinese proverb is correct, because without beauty or peace, there is nothing in the world. Peace in this world is what is more important, and from beauty comes peace.

Character Counts

Character Counts
“The Six Pillars of Character”

1. Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
2. Trustworthiness: Be honest. Do what you say you’ll do. Have the courage to do the right thing. Ex) If you see someone trying to steal something from the store, you go to the store manager and tell them right away.
Respect: Treat others with respect. Use good manners, not bad language. Ex) if you are speaking with your mother, speak to her with respect and do not use bad language.
Responsibility: Do what you are supposed to do. Plan ahead. Use self-control. Ex) If you are assigned an assignment and it is do next week, do it ahead of time.
Fairness: Play by the rules. Take turns and share. Be open minded; listen to others ideas. Ex) if you are playing a board game with friends, do not cheat and play fair.
Caring: Be kind. Be compassionate and show you care. Express gratitude. Forgive others. Ex) Be nice to your mother and father.
Citizenship: Cooperate. Get involved in community affairs. Stay informed. Vote. Be a good neighbor. Ex) Clean up the streets in your community.

Reflection: I think that the six pillars are very important because people should really know about this. This is a very helpful idea that can make our way of living a lot better if everyone followed it. I am committed to share these six pillars by expressing kindness and honesty and citizenship.

“I would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating.”
Sophocles

Reflection: It is best to fail on something that you did correctly, than to win something that you cheated on. Wining is usually great when it is done honestly, but when you try to cheat in order to win, then you did not win honestly, not only did you cheat, but you also cheated on yourself. Losing isn’t always a bad thing, especially when you tried so hard to win, but instead of cheating you decided to be honest even if it caused you to lose.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day
Monday May 25

1.      Memorial Day is a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered, traditionally observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May.
2.      The purpose of Memorial Day is to honor those who serve or have served for our country, and for the good they’ve done. We are very proud of them and love them and respect them very much.
3.      Memorial Day is on the last Monday of May.
4.      Some ways to show honor and respect on this day is simply putting up your American flag.

This year I will celebrate Memorial Day with my family and cousins. My cousin is participating in the U.S. army, so we will all be celebrating with her at home and thanking her for what she’s done for us and our country.

“If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.”
Dan Dierdorf

Reflection: What he is saying in his quote is that if you’ve got a goal, do everything you can to make it happen. When you set your goals, set them with the intension of doing everything possible to achieve them in the right way. When you want to do something, do it right. Always choose the right.

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”
Wilford Woodruff

Reflection: I agree with him because I believe that he is right. When you do something that is bad and or wrong, nothing good will come out of it. If you help someone do something that is bad, then you are just as much involved and going to be punished as they are. It doesn’t matter if you weren’t the one who thought of that bad idea, but if you participate in it then nothing good will come your way.

“The reward for doing right is mostly and internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem.”
Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Reflection: I think that what she is saying is true. Having self- respect and dignity in you is what will always result from doing what is right. Not only will you have self- respect, others will respect you as well.

“Dare you to stand alone.”
Thomas S. Monson

Reflection: I think he means that it is best to stand alone when something is wrong. If your friends are going out and decide to do something bad, then it is best to stand alone no matter what the others say about you, even if they make fun of you.
