Character Counts
“The Six Pillars of Character”
1. Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness,
Caring, and Citizenship.
2. Trustworthiness: Be honest. Do what you say you’ll do.
Have the courage to do the right thing. Ex) If you see someone trying to steal
something from the store, you go to the store manager and tell them right away.
Respect: Treat others with respect. Use good manners, not bad
language. Ex) if you are speaking with your mother, speak to her with respect
and do not use bad language.
Responsibility: Do what you are supposed to do. Plan ahead.
Use self-control. Ex) If you are assigned an assignment and it is do next week,
do it ahead of time.
Fairness: Play by the rules. Take turns and share. Be open
minded; listen to others ideas. Ex) if you are playing a board game with
friends, do not cheat and play fair.
Caring: Be kind. Be compassionate and show you care. Express
gratitude. Forgive others. Ex) Be nice to your mother and father.
Citizenship: Cooperate. Get involved in community affairs.
Stay informed. Vote. Be a good neighbor. Ex) Clean up the streets in your community.
Reflection: I think that the six pillars are very important
because people should really know about this. This is a very helpful idea that
can make our way of living a lot better if everyone followed it. I am committed
to share these six pillars by expressing kindness and honesty and citizenship.
