St. Patrick’s Day
1. He is the
patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity’s most widely known figures.
But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the
stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account
of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of
hundreds of years exaggerated storytelling.
2. To celebrate
the Roman Catholic feast day of the patron saint of Ireland. He died on March
17, 461.
3. St. Patrick’s
Day is designated when it is, because that was the day that St, Patrick died.
4. We wear
green on St. Patrick’s Day because it was worn for good luck. The friendly
brothers of St. Patrick, an Irish fraternity founded in about 1750, adopted
green as its color.
5. I find it
interesting how much there really is to learn about this day. I never really
understood the meaning of St. Patrick’s Day, but now I do. I would love to
participate on this day. St. Patrick was actually a saint that I never knew
about.
